Newborn sessions are gentle, unhurried, and centered around your baby. There is no need to worry if your little one needs extra feeding, soothing, cuddling, or diaper changes. Every baby is different, and I will follow your baby’s cues throughout the session.
Please read this guide before your appointment and share it with everyone who will attend. A little preparation can help us create a calm experience and beautiful images—but perfection is never expected.
The ideal time for classic newborn portraits is generally 3–16 days after birth. During this stage, many babies sleep deeply and naturally curl into cozy poses. Advanced poses are often easiest during the first 5–8 days, but every baby is different and no pose can be guaranteed.
Babies who are 3–8 weeks old—or even older—are still wonderful to photograph. Older newborns may be more alert, less flexible, and interested in looking around. Their galleries often include wrapped images, natural baby-led poses, sweet expressions, eye contact, and beautiful family connections.
Your baby does not need to sleep for the entire session. Awake images can be just as meaningful.
If your baby is scheduled for a circumcision or has recently had one, please let me know before the session. We may need to adjust the date or posing to protect your baby’s comfort. Always follow your pediatrician’s instructions and wait until your baby is healing well before participating in a posed session.
Make sure everyone attending feels well and is free of contagious symptoms.
Pack diapers, wipes, feeding supplies, a pacifier, burp cloths, and extra clothing.
Prepare simple, coordinating outfits for family portraits.
Clean and trim nails because hands are often visible in newborn portraits.
Send me any final questions, color preferences, or meaningful prop ideas.
Follow your baby’s normal feeding and care routine.
If your baby comfortably tolerates it, allow a little calm awake time before leaving. Please do not keep an overtired or upset baby awake for the session.
Dress baby in a loose zip-up or snap-front sleeper that does not need to be pulled over the head.
Avoid tight socks, mittens, headbands, or clothing that may leave marks on baby’s skin.
Give yourself extra travel time—newborn mornings can be unpredictable.
Extra newborn-size diapers and wipes
Enough breast milk or formula for the entire session, plus extra
Bottles and any feeding supplies your baby normally uses
A pacifier, if you are comfortable using one
Burp cloths and a familiar blanket
A change of clothes for baby and parents
Water and snacks for parents
Quiet activities and mess-free snacks for siblings
One or two meaningful items, if approved before the session
A comfortably full baby often settles more easily. Please follow your baby’s normal feeding routine and hunger cues.
You may feed baby before leaving home or after arriving at the studio.
Feeding, burping, diaper, and soothing breaks are always welcome.
If pumping, bring extra expressed milk and bottles.
If formula-feeding, bring enough for the session plus a little extra.
A bottle warmer is available—just let me know if you need it.
Nursing parents will have privacy and plenty of time. There is never a need to rush.
Please continue following your pediatrician’s feeding and care recommendations. You do not need to change your diet or your baby’s routine solely for the photography session.
A pacifier can be VERY helpful during brief posing transitions, even if baby uses one only occasionally. If you are comfortable using one, please bring your preferred pacifier. A soft, flexible style often works especially well. Pacifier use is always the parent’s choice.
If your baby naturally has a calm awake period before the session, gentle interaction or a bath may help them settle afterward. Please do not force your baby to stay awake, delay a needed nap, or create stress in an effort to make them sleepy. A comfortable baby is always more important than a sleeping baby.
Classic Full Newborn Session: approximately 3–4 hours (OR CAN BE LESS DEPEND ON THE BABY-BABY-LED SESSION)
Simple Newborn Session or smaller package: approximately 1 hour, depending on the package
These times include feeding, diaper changes, cuddling, soothing, and transitions. Some babies settle quickly, while others need more time. Both are completely normal.
The studio is kept warm so baby remains comfortable while being photographed. Since it may feel warm to adults, dress in layers and bring water. You are welcome to relax on the couch, enjoy watching the session, or take advantage of a little quiet time.
I provide everything needed to style your newborn session, including:
Wraps and newborn outfits
Blankets and backdrops
Bonnets and headbands
Baskets, buckets, beds, and carefully selected props
Before your session, please share your preferred colors, themes, and any inspiration images. I will use them to understand what you love while adapting the styling to your baby and my warm, colorful artistic style.
You may bring one or two meaningful items. Please send photos or descriptions in advance so I can evaluate their size, safety, and styling. An item may not be used if it cannot be incorporated safely.
Once the session begins, I will gently take the lead in wrapping, soothing, and posing your baby. Limiting unnecessary handoffs often helps the session flow peacefully. I may ask for your help when baby needs to feed, be comforted, or have a parent nearby as a safety spotter.
Please relax and enjoy the experience. Your baby sets the pace, and I follow their lead.
Babies may pee, poop, or spit up during the session—especially while undressed. This is expected, so there is no need to feel embarrassed or apologize. All wraps, outfits, fabrics, props, and posing surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized between sessions.
Please keep personal photography and video to a minimum so I can remain focused on your baby and the creative process. I may capture behind-the-scenes clips or create a short Reel. If you prefer not to be photographed, recorded, or shared, please let me know. Your privacy choice will always be respected according to your photography agreement.
Newborns are especially vulnerable to illness. If anyone attending has a fever, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, or another potentially contagious symptom, please contact me as soon as possible to discuss rescheduling. Please follow current medical guidance about when it is safe to be around a newborn.
When you arrive:
Remove your shoes upon entering.
Wash or sanitize your hands.
Limit unnecessary personal items in the studio.
Supervise siblings and follow all studio safety directions.
Bring only the people approved to attend.
My home studio is cozy and designed for newborn safety and comfort. Parents and siblings are included according to the package selected.
Please ask before bringing grandparents, extended family members, or guests.
Your newborn photography package includes your immediate family only—baby, parents, and siblings.
If you would like to include grandparents or other extended family members, please let me know in advance. An additional fee of $50 per person may apply, depending on your selected package.
Because my studio space is limited, anyone who is not being photographed may be asked to wait elsewhere. A necessary caregiver or support person is welcome to attend with advance notice.
Please arrive at your scheduled time so we can make the most of your session.
If you are running 10–15 minutes late, please text me with your estimated arrival time.
Arriving more than 30 minutes late may require cancellation or rescheduling, with a $150 rescheduling fee, subject to availability.
No-shows are non-refundable.
Additional studio time beyond the package may be billed at $150 per hour.
A $200-per-hour studio service fee applies to approved after-hours or nighttime sessions.
Newborn mornings can be unpredictable. If something changes, communication is always appreciated.
Your baby’s comfort, breathing, circulation, temperature, and natural range of motion are always more important than achieving a particular pose.
Every session is baby-led, and I never force a pose.
I carefully watch your baby’s cues and adjust or stop whenever needed.
Not every pose is suitable for every baby, so specific poses cannot be guaranteed.
Some babies prefer wrapped poses, while others are comfortable with gently posed images.
Parents may be asked to remain within arm’s reach as a safety spotter.
If a setup or position is not right for your baby, I will create a beautiful alternative.
The froggy pose is an advanced composite pose and is attempted only when baby is calm, comfortable, and naturally suited to the position. Baby is never expected to support their own head.
A parent or trained assistant maintains hands-on support throughout the pose. Separate photographs are then carefully combined during editing so the supporting hands do not appear in the finished image. If the pose is not appropriate for your baby, we will not continue with it.

💭 Tell me your vision.
🎨 Let me bring the details together.
✨ Together, we’ll create a magical little world designed especially for your baby.
Any special theme set up. must let me know before baby arrive. So, Please share your ideas with me as early as possible so I have enough time to plan the colors, purchase the props, outfits, and backdrop for your specific theme request. Custom setups are created with your baby’s comfort and safety as the highest priority. Some themes may require additional planning, specialty items, or a custom-design fee.
The goal is to coordinate—not match exactly. Soft, simple clothing keeps the attention on your family and your new baby.
Cream, ivory, oatmeal, beige, and warm tan
Soft gray, sage, dusty blue, muted rose, and gentle earth tones
Subtle textures such as linen, knit, lace, or flowing fabric
Large logos, words, cartoon characters, and neon colors
Busy or high-contrast patterns
Dressing everyone entirely in bright white or black
Bulky watches or distracting jewelry
Dangling accessories that could catch on baby
Choose comfortable clothing that allows easy movement. Keep nails clean, bare, or neutral because parents’ hands appear often in newborn portraits. Moms are welcome to arrive in comfortable, nursing-friendly clothing and change before family portraits.
Send me photos of your options if you would like help coordinating your family’s look.
Professional hair and makeup are optional, but they can be a lovely way to feel pampered and camera-ready. Soft, natural makeup and hair with gentle movement photograph beautifully.
Hair and makeup services are not included in your photography package. If you would like recommendations for professional artists, please let me know and I will send you my current referral list. Services are scheduled and paid for directly with the artist.
If doing your own makeup, choose natural tones and avoid neon colors or heavy glitter. Wear your hair in a way that feels like you—soft curls, natural texture, or a simple half-up style can all look beautiful.

Sibling portraits can be incredibly sweet, and young children often need flexibility. We may photograph siblings at the beginning or end of the session depending on their age, energy, and comfort.
Make sure they are rested and fed.
Explain the session in positive, age-appropriate language.
Arrive with clean faces, hands, hair, and nails.
Dress them comfortably in simple, timeless clothing.
Bring quiet activities, mess-free snacks, and a comfort item.
Consider arranging for another adult to take young siblings home or outside after their portraits.
Please avoid pressure, threats, or punishment if a child feels hesitant. Calm encouragement, breaks, play, and small rewards usually work best.
For safety, a child will never be forced to hold the newborn. If direct posing is not safe or comfortable, we may:
Place baby securely in a prop with the sibling nearby.
Have one parent hold each child.
Photograph gentle interaction with adult hands close by.
Create candid family moments instead.
Cooperation and specific sibling poses cannot be guaranteed, but I will patiently create the best images possible for your family.
Your newborn session does not need to feel stressful or perfectly planned. Choose outfits that feel comfortable, coordinate your colors, and come ready to love on your new baby.
I will gently guide your family through every pose while keeping your baby’s comfort and safety at the heart of the session.
Still unsure what to wear? Send me photos of your outfit ideas before your session—I’m always happy to help you create a beautiful, coordinated look.
These tiny details and fleeting moments will become memories your family treasures for a lifetime. I cannot wait to create something beautiful for you. 🤍
